CVE-2024-38213Windows — a file that slips past the Mark of the Web

A crafted file loses the Mark of the Web that tells Windows it came from outside, so the reputation check (SmartScreen) never runs and the file opens without the warning a download would normally raise.

YOUR NEXT MOVE

Install the August 2024 Windows update. Until it lands, handle downloaded archives and disk images as if the origin warning will not appear, because it will not.
